European Championship 2009

XX SENIOR – XI JUNIOR AND III VETERN


It took place from 25th until 30th May the European Chapionship in Umag City, Croatia. There were 22 countries and Spain was represented by its male team, one individual female competidor, one coach and one oficial.

The event started, as usual with the inscription, weight in and meeting, where draw of all divisions and umpire meeting took place.

From the beggining the president of ITF de España, Fernando Pérez, whom is also the Tournament Comité Director for Europe, together with other oficial as Master Don Dalton and Mr. Marc Skyrme from England, worked together for the good development of the competition.

The competition started on Tuesday 26 may with individual divisions, where Spain won its first medals.

In Patterns, Leonardo Monreal and Maximiliano Montiel got bronze medals in 3rd degree division alter many bouts to get to the semi finals.

Also in Patterns, Marc Barnes got to the semifinals, where he won the bronze medal in his first internacional competition.

The other medals won during the first day were in sparring.

Laura Lupón, got the bronze medal in her first internacional competition.

One more bronze medal was won be Christian Oriolani in the division with most competitors.

During the first day, two competitors qualify for the finals that took place the next day. These competitors were Gabriel Leske in Patterns II Degree and Christian Oriolani in Patterns V Degree.

At the end of the first day the spanish delegation had 7 medals that gave them the strength to get ready for the team competition.

Team patterns gave Spain the bronze medal, because Spain lost against england on the semifinal.

Team sparring was a great show, and Spain started against Croatia, winning clearly althought the spectators and the rival were against.

The semifinal was against England, one of the strongest teams in Europe.

England won after a very hard match, where a warning point broke the tie. This gave Spain other bronze medal.

On the last day, our 2 finalists, Christian Oriolani y Gabriel Leske, won the silver medals, adding 2 new medals to the Spanish Delegation achievements.

2 SILVER

7 BRONZE  

Undoublty this was an excellent result for the Spanish delegation, looking forward to keep on improving.

We want to express our gratitude and thankfulnes for his hard job and his enthusiasm. We look forward to the next event… the world champ in South Korea in July 2010!!!
